Podcasting

November 16th, 2005 by Rob Osborn

Just thought i’d drop in a drop a quick line and a link to one of my latest projects. After meeting with Jeff Baldwin and Bill Jack last weekend while they were in Pittsburgh for a conference, i’ve begun doing post-production work on the Worldview Academy podcast. This is exciting for me because i’ve been looking for a way to get involved with Worldview Academy for the last several years. For those of you who don’t know, I was a student at WVA back in ‘96 and i worked as a staff member each summer thereafter until ‘00. WVA is an awesome ministry to Christian young people, and i’m glad to be involved again.

If any of you haven’t discovered podcasting, i highly recommend you give it a listen. The easiest way to do this is to download the most recent version of iTunes. Once you’ve done so, click on the “Podcasts” playlist on the left side of the screen, and then click on the “podcast directory” at the bottom of the podcast window. Once you’re at the directory, you can view some of the podcasts that Apple has available, or, you can search them. Once you’ve subscribed to the podcast of your choice, new episodes will be downloaded whenever they’re available.

I highly recommend the Radio Worldview podcast, which you can subscribe to through iTunes. Or, by following this link you can go directly to the WVA site and listen to the episodes individually. The WVA faculty show some amazing insight into our world and the current events surrounding us. We could all benefit by listening to what they have to say, and, if not agreeing with all of it, thinking about it and letting it challenge our minds.

Complaints, Complaints.

November 9th, 2005 by Rob Osborn

So…it’s been a while since my last post. I figured i’d better update soon or people are going to stop reading–which they probably already have. If you are reading this, thanks for sticking around.

Verity is here on the couch next to me screaming unconsolably. It’s a very rare occurence. So, i’m ignoring her and letting her scream. Her current vocal pitch is just such that when she screams it vibrates the inside of my ears like a resonant frequency. It’s actually quite painful. I hope she outgrows it very soon. All her voice has to do is change to a slightly different pitch and i’m sure i’ll be fine. For the momement though i had to put on headphones and turn on some music.

I’m listening to a fantastic podcast that i stumbled on the other day. It’s an indie rock show put out once a week by Spin 180. It’s some of the best Christian music i’ve heard in years–far, far from the mainstream crap that most Christian labels are putting out right now. I encourage anyone who likes harder or alternative music to check it out. Go to the iTunes music store and do a search for spin 180. It’s worth listening to the Christian “micro sermons” just to hear the good music you won’t hear anywhere else.

Speaking of music, i’m back in the saddle on my album project. I’m at the stage where it’s starting to discourage me. Realistically, i’m probably slightly less than halfway finished. Which is great, but this is the stage where i’m starting to get a good idea of what sort of quality i’m going to be able to accomplish and what the final project is going to sound like. I’m also at the stage where i’m realizing how much work i really do have to finish the project. I’m also running out of ideas musically, and i’m afraid that it’s going to start to get stale. Being a visionary with a short attention span isn’t helping me on this project. I think if i could beat the thing out in a couple weeks i’d be alright, but working on it 30 minutes a day isn’t getting me very far. Sorry for the complaining rant. I realize that i’m so blessed to be working on the project at all, and i shouldn’t be complaining about the chance to do so.

Well, the little one has finally settled down, so i should go. More later.
