To the Pie Party

September 15th, 2006 by Rob Osborn

Just wanted to remind all of those who are eating pie and assuming that we care, that we’re at a free Andrew Peterson concert. With free wi-fi. So there.

A Real Post

September 10th, 2006 by Rob Osborn

Greetings everyone.

Yes, it has been a while since i’ve posted. No, i won’t apologize for it. There was simply nothing i needed or wanted to say. I know that it’s time for an update, so here it is.

Things have been really busy around here, but not much of it has been very interesting or noteworthy. Here’s a quick rundown.

Work has been steady, but slower than i’d like it to be. In my free time i’ve been trying to help a friend of mine start a similar business to mine. He’s working a very draining job at present and really needs to make a change. We’re optimistic that the new venture will succeed. I really hope that it does.

The summer season at Old North Church has ended and so has Asphalt23’s involvement in Sunday morning worship at ONC. Two new worship leaders have been hired to lead the two different Sunday morning worship services. I’ve decided to continue my involvement with the ONC worship ministry as much as i can. I’m currently working with the sound crew, and seem to have found a nice niche in the role of ’sound guy’ on Sunday mornings. My past year and a half of studio work has givin me much insight into the process of fine tuning live sound, and i’ve become a much better mix engineer because of it.

Asphalt23 played our first gig away from ONC this morning at Mt. Olivet Church of God in North Lima, Ohio.  We played a few songs during the worship service, and then, after a potluck dinner played another 45 minute set for the 12 people that wanted to hear more of our music. All in all, it was a good (and exhausting) day, and as a band we learned a lot and are much better for it. I’m excited about the futue for A23. Since we’ve cut ourselves loose from the Sunday morning ministry at ONC we’re really hoping to recapture our vision for playing music at different churches and venues. In the next month we’re planning on developing our website and promotional materials, and recording a three-song cd that will be used for promotion. It’s an exciting time.

It’s been a very long day and i’m more than ready for bed, in spite of the fact that it’s only 9:15pm (those of you that know me well know that my usual bed time is closer to 2:15 am). Elizabeth and i finally bit the bullet and got a gym membership last week, so we’re both planning on making daily trips to the gym part of our new routine. We’re really hoping to pull some stray areas of our lives into line so that we have the capacity to better serve in all the areas God has us in right now. It’s an exciting time, and we’re excited to be living it.

Against My Will

September 10th, 2006 by Rob Osborn

It’s common knowledge that i don’t like filling out any sort of online survey (i.e. don’t ask me to do it). But, i have no choice when it comes from my wife. So, here it is.

1. What are you reading now? Nothing

2. What’s the best book you’ve read this year? The Picture of Dorian Grey

3. What’s your favorite work of historical fiction? Atrocity Gods

4. Pick a random book from your shelves and write down its first sentence. Does it make you want to read more?

In self-discipline one makes a ‘disciple’ of oneself. -William J. Bennett

Sure

5. Have you ever read a book and wished that you’d written it? What was it? NO. I have no aspirations to become an author.
6. What book on your shelves do you wish you’d never bought? Can’t find one.
7. Have you ever bought someone a book for BAFAB? No

8. What book do you really wish someone would buy you for BAFAB?
Self-Promotion for the Creative Person

9. Go to book-blog.com and leave a comment mentioning your post. Remember to include your permalink in the comment.

10. Tag three people.

I hear that these people have been previously tagged. But they deserve another for the following reasons.

Melissa, ’cause you’re an easy target.
Adrienne, ’cause i didn’t sleep for two days after i found out it was you.
Kim, ’cause you’re going to get paid to play music, and that’s not fair.
