The Balance | Our Merciful God | August '05
Letter to Verity | The Songs of Home | You Cover Me
The Balance
It's early morning and you're still asleep
As I lie next to you in our bed
The sun is shining and the trees are green
And the world feels like a faithful friend
I can hear our daughter laugh and play
Her contentment is a song of peace
And a joy that would lift any weight
Has found me like a gentle breeze
Sometimes it seems like we're living
in the arms of something wonderful
Sometimes it feels like the world
couldn't let us down if we were meant to fall
When I said that I would love you
I meant that I would love you if we fall or if we stand
Though I struggle with my nature
And forget the bigger picture
While I build my castles in the sand
So baby while you're dreaming
I promise I will do the best I can
And let mercy be the balance
As we try to run the gamut
From the spring until the winter's end
Well baby take a look around
Did you ever guess this is where we'd be
Life snuck on in without a sound
And has laid it's heavy hand on me
I've got more than I could ever want
My beautiful wife and my baby girl
But inside I'm still one of Adam's sons
So distracted by the this cold hard world
And sometimes it seems like we're
staring out the window at a brick wall
And sometimes it feels like this
might not be the place for us after all
I've learned that mercy
Can kill and then revive us in a single breath
And I've learned that mercy
Is the hero that will save us when we've met our match
And I've learned that mercy
Will be more than just a driver if we let her take the wheel
And I've learned that mercy is the reason we will make it we
Let her make the deals
Our Merciful God
From the core of the earth
Your name is exalted
To the highest heaven
From the depth of the sea
Your beauty is worshiped
To the tallest mountain
And all of creation
Will tell of Your glory
And all of the nations
Will sing of Your mercy
As over and over and over again
Your grace is the answer for my sin
As over and over and over again
Your love is the song that calls me in
Words aren’t enough for who You are
Our voices cannot repay Your scars
This is our offering of love
To our merciful merciful God
From the ice of the North
Your goodness is counted
To the desert wasteland
In the deep of my heart
Your love is the balance
I cannot comprehend
August '05
It's a summer night in August and I'm restless like the men
Who leave their wives and children on a ship before the wind
This storm is no nor'easter that would throw me o'er the side
My gale is just the longing of a father for his child
This house was an oasis since the day I signed my name
Now it's empty like the station where we're waiting for your train
Our lives were never barren until we knew you were alive
Now we're hollow like a drum that we can't play 'till you arrive
We can almost, almost hear you laughing in our dreams
We can almost, almost feel the rhythm as you breath
We can almost, almost see the tears that you will cry
And the only thing that's missing in this room is you tonight
On the floor there is a carpet like a garden green and white
And walls like purple mountains touch a ceiling like the sky
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Seuss are waiting for your ears
And the night-light in the corner will chase away your fears
Your mom should be your hero she takes your beating like a champ
When you hear a note of music and begin to dance your dance
But she wouldn't live without you and she loves you with her life
There's a picture of her on the wall and i hope you have her eyes
A Letter to Verity
Everybody said things would be different
And everything's been different since we knew
And there you are sleeping in your blanket
And I just can't remember the way things used to be
Before I met you
I know I won't be perfect as a father
But I'm thankful I was chosen for the job
So I'm counting on the mercy of a savior
To keep me strong and keep me able and forgive me when I fall
Or when I fail you
If I would leave this world tomorrow
And leave you on your own
I don't have more to leave you
Than the wisdom in this song
Baby
We can walk these roads but never find our freedom
And we can sell our souls but never pay our ransom
We can hear the notes but never sing the anthem
And we can live and die and never know the reason
But if you find yourself left all alone my sweet, sweet child
There is grace beneath the chaos of this sad and lonely world
And a mercy that will hide you like an oyster hides a pearl
While your Savior gently leads you
While my Savior gently leads my little girl
The Songs of Home
Wake up gently, Love
The hours do not linger
The sun is at our window
And time is wearing thin
Wake up gently love
The children stay in slumber
And I don't have the heart
To see their tears again
For there is no sweet sorrow in this moment
There is no regret in the moments that are past
Kiss me softly; there might never be another day
And I will hold onto you for as long as I remain
Kiss me softly like an angel in this pouring rain
As we listen to the songs
As we listen to the songs that call my name
Breathe upon me now
Sweet Jesus, hold me tighter
I cannot bear the hour
I admit I am afraid
Breathe upon me now
Your will is all that matters
As this world I've loved
Is fading away
Hold me tightly there might never be another day
And I will hold onto you for as long as I remain
Hold me tightly, my dear Savior, in this pouring rain
As we listen to the songs
As we listen to the songs that call my name
You Cover Me
This beating heart will be silent
As the morning breaks brand new
And the sun that lights the mountains
Is dark beside The Truth
And my faith that left me shaken
Will never doubt again
My hope will find it's ending
As you reach to take my hand
The throne that shines like crystal
And the gold that makes your streets
Are not what I will wish for
When I fall before your feet
And the tears that tell the story
Of the life I left behind
Will beg to be forgiven
As they pour out of my eyes
As I stand before your holiness Your glory fills my heart
Your mercy is completed in the moment I'm restored
You wipe away my tears and they are never to return
You cover me, You cover me, You cover me with Love
As the angels kneel before you
And sing their holy song
The mighty host of heaven
Begins to sing along
And the glory of the ages
That has polished every heart
Proclaims his bride is perfect
As you cover me with love
Bridge
I don't understand why I am the way I am
But I know it's still your plan
And you cover me
And my life is just a part of this world that gave your scars
But this sin won't be my mark when You cover me
